This map from mint.com shows income by state as well as several other interesting statistics.
For better and for worse, I live near the most expensive rent in the nation. Good because I’m a landlord, bad because I’m also a tenant.

Great map. Makes me think of things in a different light. I live in Houston and the map is all too accurate. I spend entirely too much time in traffic and on gas. Problem is, thought, the City is so disorganized that a good publis transportation system is not really possible. This goes back to the the City’s roots and no zoning.
I am surprised the lowest priced houses are in Indianapolis. I would have thought Detriot would be cheaper.
